Met Gala 2015

On May 4th, the annual Met Gala took place in New York City.

The Met Gala, previously known as the Costume Institute Gala , is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. But it is really known as the biggest fashion event of the year. The event has been held at the Met since 1971 and is considered to be the ‘fashion industry’s premier annual red carpet event’ with all the big name celebrities attending the event yearly to kick off the fashion season with a bang!

Vogue editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour is the chair of the event and has been for over 19 years. Each year the event has a theme, and includes a cocktail hour and a formal dinner for all in attendance. 2015’s theme was ‘China Through the Looking Glass’. The guest list was kept to a ‘minimum’ of 650-700 a-list celebs and tickets were a pricey $25,000 to increase exclusivity. It’s okay Anna Wintour, I didn’t want to go this year anyway, I had plans to watch Gossip Girl instead.

My Laois Rose 2015 experience

Since the age of 3 or 4, I have always dreamed of being a Laois Rose. This year, I got to fulfil the dream. On January 16th 2015, I met current Rose of Tralee Maria Walsh with my current co-op placement and after robbing her crown and chatting to her, she said ‘Sure why don’t you apply for the Rose of Tralee? You’d make a great Rose!’ So with encouragement from family, friends and Anne Marie in the Laois Rose Centre, I filled out the application and sure the rest is history now.

The whole Laois Rose experience kicked of on April 10th, with our Information night in the Heritage Hotel. I had NO idea what to expect that night and was a bag of nerves! As soon as I walked into the room, I was put at ease straight away, greeted by Bernadette with a warming smile!! When I sat down among the 17 other Roses, I became even more at ease when I saw a few familiar faces and sure you couldn’t stop us chatting then. Anne Marie and Bernadette briefed us about the two upcoming dates we had and by the time they were finished, I was more excited than I have ever been before! To get to know the other Roses even more, they had organised for us to go to a local pub for cocktails, a lovely relaxing way to mingle with everyone.

LAOIS ROSE

On the 18th of April, we had the Laois Rose Tour. This day was about seeing what Lovely Laois has to offer and ’embracing the cheese’ as Anne Marie said multiple times throughout the day! We also got our sashes for the first time and it all became very real then. We went to the Heritage Hotel Portlaoise, Laois Shopping Centre, The Store Yard Portlaoise, Abbeyleix Heritage Centre, Timahoe Round Tower, The Maldron Hotel and Roll ‘n’ Bowl. It was a fantastic day and a great laugh. All of us got to know each other more and we really didn’t want the day to end!

Selection day – The big day! I have never ever been as nervous as I was when I woke up on Friday morning. I was cool as a breeze all week, very excited for the whole thing and then reality hit! I had my first Rose interview at 10:55 am with the three judges. The minute I walked in the room, the nerves eased a little! The judges were so lovely, I can certainly see why they are all part of The Rose of Tralee. I spoke about how I suffer with anxiety and how I did lose my voice 3 years ago and they were so comforting and supportive towards me. That made me feel a lot better. My only regret in the whole experience is how nervous I was in that interview. I panicked a bit on some questions that I could easily talk for an hour about any other day of the week. Sure I was only getting into the interview when Anne Marie knocked on the door! It was off to get the hair done then! We were treated like princess all day really. We had our group interview at 3pm and that was so much more relaxing because I got to go in with 8 other Roses who are now my great friends! We all vibed off each other, it was like a casual gossip with the girls rather than a group interview! I think we impressed the judges so much that the asked us 5 questions instead of 4! As soon as that was over, it was rehearsal time! Before we knew it, Steve was in and telling us it was almost time to kick off the show! To the two beautiful Escorts, who put us at ease throughout the evening and helping us up and down the stage, a huge thank you to you. Brendan Hennessy, the MC, you got rid of my nerves all together! I was so comfortable with him on the stage that I could of stayed up for another 10 minutes chatting away to him!IMG_0419 IMG_0420 IMG_0421 IMG_0423 IMG_0427 IMG_0429

To the 17 other Roses, you are the most friendliest, kind hearted and fabulous girls I know. I couldn’t of asked for better girls to go through this experience with. You made the experience so wonderful, I will truly never forget it. To Ailbhe, The Laois Rose for 2015, the biggest congratulations to you. You are the perfect ambassador for Laois in the Rose of Tralee, you have beauty, a kind heart and effortless grace. I look forward to seeing you on stage with Daithi at Regionals, you’ll have your Laois Rose family behind you all the way.

To my sponsor, Eamon A’Chnoic. You have been great. I can never thank you guys enough for allowing me represent your pub and our community. This whole experience has been incredible and without your support, I would have never been able to do it.

To all my family, friends and everyone who has sent me best wishes and supported me, thank you so much. I am deeply touched with all the support I received and it meant the world to me. I just hope I done everyone proud.

To Anne Marie, Bernadette, Sarah and Teresa, Thank you so much for everything, especially the words of encouragement when I was so nervous or anxious. The amount of work you guys done with us over the past three weeks is mind blowing, and you always graced with smiles and comforting hugs. You are very admirable women and I am blessed to have been in your company. To anyone who has ever considered going for Laois Rose, do not hesitate. Take the risk. It is totally worth it.

This whole experience has been amazing. It has help me grow as a woman and has definitely helped with my confidence. I am so proud to be associated with such a great organization.

I most definitely will go again, maybe when I’m a little older, wiser and more experienced. That is if the Laois Rose Centre will have me again! 😉

March Favourites 2015!

God 2015 is flying by! It’s already April, and it’s been almost 4 months since I hit 1000 views and now I am almost at 4000!!! I do promise to blog more and April is a very busy but exciting month so lots to blog about! So lets get started!

Book

So this month, I decided to pick a book from the huge number of books my parents got me for Christmas. I decided to read Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. I chose to read this base the fact I am a Fangirl and recently (if you read my previously blog post) I had be feeling ashamed of being a fangirl! It took a while for me to get into this book, I will be honest. But once I did, I couldn’t put it down. I haven’t finished it yet (there is over 400 pages!!) but I am over halfway through it and I love it! It is basically a coming of age story and I probably should’ve read it before I went to college. Cath is a fangirl and writes fanfiction. Cath is a freshman in college who suffers from social anxiety and her outgoing identical twin sister Wren chose to live in another dorm. Cath rarely leaves her dorm room and eats endless amounts of protein bars. Cath has to put up with her roommate Reagan’s very friendly boyfriend, Levi, who begins to bring her out of her shell, and charm his way into her heart. It is a great read.

Song

Like every other person in the world right now probably, I am LOVING OMI’s Cheerleader. Oh my god, it instantly makes me want to dance and I feel summery and just happy! One day in work, I searched the song on Youtube and found an One Hour Remix and I listed to it for the whole hour and didn’t get sick of it!!! Can OMI release more tunes like this asap please?!!!

Another tune that has me dancing around my room is All Time Low’s Kids In The Dark. I adore this song. I am also proud for All Time Low as I am actually hearing this song on the radio because I have never heard All Time Low on the radio!

Movies

I went to see Cinderella with my Auntie and my two cousins two weeks ago and I think I enjoyed it more than my two cousins! I loved it so much, that I went to see it a second time four days later with my friend Darina! It kept very close to the original version, which made it even better. It was just wonderful. You can learn a lot from the Cinderella movie, both the originally and new version. I am planning on writing a blog on that soon so look out for that!

11081124_940486159303579_6047917507509295115_n

I watched What If with Sarah and Laura recently. What If is basically a movie questioning if a guy and a girl can really just be friends without one of them catching feelings. It’s a bit like When Harry Met Sally to be honest. I loved it. It stars Daniel Radcliffe and Zoe Kazan, who are so painfully cute throughout the movie. The moive is about Wallace, who’s still hung up about his ex girlfriend cheating on him, and his love life and his view on relationships. So while everyone around him, including his roommate Allan seems to be finding the perfect partner, Wallace decides to put his love life on hold. But then he meets Chantry who lives with her longtime boyfriend Ben. Wallace and Chantry connect immediatley and the start of their friendship began. Throughout the whole movie, the chemistry between them is clear, leading them both to wonder, what if the love of your life is actually your best friend?!

Fashion

There is only one thing in relation to fashion I am going to talk about and that is my Moschino dress. It’s the first piece of Moschino I have ever bought and I absolutely adore it. I have always admired Moschino clothes but never had the opportunity to buy anything. Until I was very stuck for a dress for a ball and I just fell in love with this dress. I know the picture below isn’t the best picture but I will be wearing it again soon and I will update the picture! 😉 The dress made me feel like such a princess and I felt very slim in it also. It is so comfy and I can not wait to get into it again! If I could, I would wear it everyday!IMG_1230

Make Up

This eyeshadow trio has been a favourite of mine for over 4 or 5 years now. I recently fell in love with it all over again. It is a simple way to get the smokey eye look. I use this nearly all the time when I do my eye make up. And it’s also under €10!

IMG_0224 IMG_0226

Eyeshadow Primer is one of my secrets to keeping my eyeshadow lasting all day and all night! This little gem from Rimmel is one of the best I have ever used!

IMG_0237

Recently, I was put on Roccautane for my acne and it is working wonders. I am only on it four weeks but the improvement already has been incredible. Hope it continues to improve! Unfortunately, one of the side effects is that my face is very, very dry and it gets very irritating at times. My other moisturizers did work but it wouldn’t last long till I would have to reapply it. So I was told to us La Roche Posay Multi Compensating Soothing Moisturizer and oh my god, this is great stuff altogether.

IMG_0238

As well as my face being dry, my lips are even drier. No other lip balm was helping and in fact vaseline was making it worse. La Roche Posay Lip Balm is the only lip balm that soothes the dryness. I do have to reapply it a few times but at least it stops the irritation.

IMG_0240

Youtuber

Pointless Blog aka Alfie Deyes is my favourite Youtuber for this month. I think Alfie was the first ever Youtuber I started watched back in the day! Recently, I fell in love with him all over again. Because with life and work being crazy, I hadn’t much time to watch Youtube videos but I started catching up on Alfie’s videos and vlogs throughout March. I do prefer his vlogs over his videos sometimes but that’s just me! Below is his latest video and latest vlog.

Food

So since my Dad had a heart attack and has been on a strict diet, I also have to be on that diet also. So instead of the usual big fry ups at the weekend that would be full of fat, we have substituted them for Turkey Sausages and Turkey Rashers. Oh my goodness, why haven’t we been eating these all our lives?! THEY ARE DIVINE! And have so much less fat than normal sausages and rashers! I talk about these so much that I am pretty sure everyone is eating them now! I even made them for the gals and they loved them!!! I am making myself hungry now thinking about how good they are!

IMG_0235 IMG_0236

Daffodils

Since I have now discovered I am not allergic to all flowers (Lilies are the main problem!!) I am beginning to love flowers again. Which is good because our garden is always full of flowers! Every year since I was very young, we have had endless amounts of Daffodils around our house and this year was no different! Daffodils instantly make the place look brighter and more spring/summery and I love it! They are dying off now though. But my Dad has just finished his gardening tunnel and I have no doubt the place will be covered in every flower possible soon!!!

See you in a month for my April Faves!

Oscars 2015 – Everything You Need To Know!

There were a few talking points at last night’s (22/2/2015) 87th Academy Awards, which took place in the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. The celebrities proved that the Oscars is more than fashion and winning awards. It is a platform for the stars to be vocal about important issues.

Prior to the Oscars, actress Reese Witherspoon and other A-listers showed support for The Representation Project’s #AskHerMore initiative, which asks journalists to ask female celebrities about more than their outfits on the red carpet. Reese took to Instagram to help promote the campaign,  I love this movement #AskHerMore..have you heard of it? It’s meant to inspire reporters to ask creative questions on the red carpet. I love the Oscars AND fashion like many of you – & am excited to share #WhoAmIWearing later tonight. But I’d also love to answer some of these Qs….And hear your suggestions?! (Share em below!) There are so many amazing, talented nominees this year..! Let’s hear their stories! Spread the word.’

Neil Patrick Harris, who hosted this year’s awards, said, “Welcome to the 87th Oscars. Tonight we honour Hollywood’s best and whitest — sorry, brightest” blasting criticism of the Hollywood system, drawing attention to the awards’ lack of diversity and how majority of the nominees were white. While the awards was on, civil rights groups staged a protest outside and were vocal about how “white wash” this year’s show was, with all 20 acting nominees were white.

It was the night to be vocal about important issues! Graham Moore, winner of Best Adapted Screenplay for The Imitation Game, announced he had attempted suicide at 16 because he felt “weird” for being gay. “This is for that kid who feels like they don’t fit in,” he said: “Stay weird, stay different.”

Patricia Arquettes spoke about gender equality in her acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actress, which has become one of the major talking points of the night. In her speech, Patricia stated “To every woman who gave birth, to every taxpayer and citizen of this nation, we have fought for everybody else’s equal rights. It’s our time to have wage equality once and for all and equal rights for women in the United States of America.” Her speech received huge appreciation from Dame Meryl Streep, who showed her support about the speech, along with Jennifer Lopez.

Eddie Redmayne made an emotional speech after he won his Oscar for Best Male Actor. He dedicated it to “all of those people around the world battling motor neurone disease”.

Twitter went into overdrive after Joan Rivers was noticeably absent from the in The Memoriam Montage.

Now, The Best Dressed

Jennifer Lopez wore a Elie Saab gown with a Salvatore Ferragamo clutch, Neil Lane jewels and Giuseppe Zanotti shoes. She looks like a princess. I want the dress.

Jennifer Aniston wore a Versace dress and Fred Leighton jewelry.

Emma Stone wore a Elie Saab Haute Couture dress, Christian Louboutin shoes, Tiffany & Co jewelry and a Lee Savage clutch.

Eddie Redmayne & Ansel  Elgort both wore the same suit! Both men looked extremely dapper but I can’t inform you who they are wearing as no one seems to ask who the men wear 😦

Channing Tatum a Dolce&Gabbana tux, Louis Leeman shoes, and Neil Lane studs and cufflinks. Jenna Dewan a Zuhair Murad Couture dress, Stuart Weitzman shoes, Lorraine Schwartz jewels, and Lee Savage bag. They always get it right. Channing is like a vintage wine, gets better with age!

Chrissy Teigen wore a Zuhair Murad gown, Oroton clutch, and Norman Silverman Diamonds jewelry and John Legend wore a Gucci suit.

Keira Knightley, I know you are pregnant, but it doesn’t mean that you can relax on the fashion front! This Valentino dress is … quite something. But not red carpet style.

Jennifer Lawrence wows at Guild Awards 2015!

The 2015 Producers Guild Awards took place in LA on Saturday 24 of January and Jennifer Lawrence stole the spotlight when she stepped on the red carpet. She wore a floor length, goddess styled Prada dress with gold Prada shoes. She themed it with a simple hair do and minimal make up!

This is Jennifer’s first walk on the red carpet since the premiere of The Hunger Games:Mockingjay Part 1, which was in November 2014. She missed the Golden Globes last week and was no doubt watching them from her sitting room while in tracksuit bottoms and eating pizza!!

But she surely made a comeback on the red carpet as she has been trending on Twitter and is in all the headlines on the internet!

Jennifer attended the Producers Guild Awards to help honor Jon Felheimer receive his Milestone Award, who is the CEO of Lionsgate, the studio that produced The Hunger Games film franchise and helped raise Jennifer to stardom.

Houndstooth – My latest obsession!

One of my favourite things in fashion at the moment is the Houndstooth pattern. I don’t know why I love it so much, maybe because it is quite flattering when on or maybe it’s the colours, I simply just love it! Okay if you have no idea what Houndstooth is, I’ll explain. Houndstooth is a duotone textile pattern defined by broken check or abstract four pointed shapes, usually in black and white, although it is available in other colours but it looks so classy in black and white. Even though it first came into fashion back in the 1880’s, it made a comeback in 2014 and I don’t think it is going anywhere soon throughout 2015. If you need more convincing to love Houndstooth, it is visible throughout the majority of seasons of Gossip Girl (and I know Gossip Girl came out 8 years ago, it has become relevant and loved by many recently!). So if Blair and Chuck are wearing it, so should you! Don’t believe me? Here’s proof!

The Best Dressed Men

Okay there is only one. Jamie Dornan. He scrubbed up so well and looked incredibly gorgeous. He wore a classic tux (I don’t know who it’s by unfortunately). He did attended the award show with his wife Amelia Warner but all eyes were on him. More over Channing and George, their is a new hunk in town.

The Best Dressed Couples

Without a doubt, Channing and Jenna Tatum are the best dressed. Jenna stunned in a Carolina Herrera dress while Channing looked dapper in a Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo. Channing Tatum showed he is the perfect gentleman when on the red carpet by holding up his wife’s train of her dress as she walked the carpet. The couple later tore up the dance floor at the after party! Jenna, you are so lucky!!

George and Amal Clooney turned heads on the red carpet at the Globes as they looked ever so stylish. It was also the couple’s first red carpet event since they got married in September. Amal looked so glamorous in a long black Dior Haute Couture dress, teamed with white gloves. George wore the tux he wore for his wedding, designed especially for him by Giorgio Armani.

The Worst Dressed

Keira Knightley is by far the worst dressed. She wore a Chanel dress and disappointed many fashion critics. While being pregnant, she should of showed of that bump in a more glamorous and chic number, instead of something you would see on bedsheets from about 50 years ago.

There are no words for Lana Del Rey’s dress. Her hair and makeup are flawless but the dress is just shocking.

Tina Fey’s other dresses on the actual show were gorgeous but her red carpet one is a big no-no! It is very unflattering, makes her look bigger at the waist and smaller in height.

Lena Dunham never knows how to get it right at these award shows does she? She wore a Zac Posen gown and the shape of it is all wrong and once again, simply unflattering.

Rosamund Pike wore a Vera Wang gown. From the waist down, it is a gorgeous dress. It’s just the top of it is extremely unflattering. Sack the stylist!

Met Gala 2014 – The Fashion!

On May 5th, the annual Met Gala took place in New York City. Now for all of you who have no idea what the Met Gala is (where have you been living?), don’t worry, I’ll explain everything!

But fashion comes at a price! It is rumoured that this year, each guest had to fork out €25,000 to attend.

Now I’ve got all the educational information out of the way, it’s now time to talk fashion!

This year’s theme was : White Tie and Diamonds. Simple, you would think. Many pulled the theme off perfectly. But many also got it very wrong. I’m not going to waste time talking about the fashion disasters that were Katie Holmes and Sandra Lee!!

My Top 9 Best Dressed Women for 2014

Rita Ora is back on the music scene and with a bang!

On the 31st of March, Leicester Square in London came to a hault. UK singer Rita Ora decided to do something a little different with the release of her new music.

It had been 2 years since the 23 year old released music and Rita is never one to do things on a small scale. She posted a picture on Instagram on Sunday requesting her fans, Ritabots, to assemble in Leicester Square in Central London at 9:30 am to celebrate the first play of her new single I Will Never Let You Down on radio on BBC’s Radio 1 with her.

And her Ritabots didn’t let her down. They turned up in their hundreds. To let the whole of London know she was back in town, Rita’s team had hundreds of balloons ready for fans to release into the sky when Rita’s new tune went to air.

The most talked about thing of the day would have to be the choice of outfit Rita showed up in. Being one to never shy away from adventurous and daring clothing, Rita donned a unique SpongeBob SquarePants‘s jumper dress and matching heels. But like always, she pulled it off and looked incredibly hot!

The song I Will Never Let You Down will be the first single off her second album due out later this year. Her boyfriend Calvin Harris produced the song, and with Calvin’s credible history with duets with Rihanna and Ellie Goulding, it’s no doubt that this song will be a number 1 hit also.

The video for the song was also release on Monday and it is classic Rita Ora style.

Check out the video below, I’m sure you’ll be singing along to it in no time!
